The Honourable Marie-France Bich

Marie-France Bich was appointed to the Court of Appeal in September 2004.

She is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Montréal (LL.L. 1977) and of Harvard Law School (LL.M. 1980).

As a member of the Québec Bar from 1978 to 2004, she first joined the firm of Martineau Walker (now Fasken Martineau), where she practised public law (constitutional law, administrative law, municipal law) and labour and employment law. She left private practice in 1983 and became a full-time professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Montréal, until her appointment to the Court of Appeal. Her academic career and her research focused on labour and employment law, but she also taught courses such as evidence and civil procedure. She also devoted part of her time to jurilinguistics, through her participation to the editorial committee of the Private Law Dictionnary (Quebec Research Centre of Private & Comparative Law, McGill University). Throughout her academic career, she also acted as a grievance arbitrator.

In parallel, Ms. Bich also held various administrative positions both at the faculty and university levels. She presided the committee of the Québec Bar on labour and employment law from 1997 to 2004.
