The Honourable Mr. Justice Jacques Dufresne was born in Saint-Hyacinthe, and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1974 after having graduated with a B.A. degree from the Seminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe and with a LL.L degree from the University of Sherbrooke in 1972.
He then joined the firm of Blanshay & Blanshay where he practiced civil litigation. From 1975 to 1988, he was a partner in the firm of Corbeil, Groleau & Dufresne where he practiced transportation law.
In 1988, he joined the firm of Ogilvy Renault where he remained in practice until his appointment to the Quebec Superior Court on June 23, 1998. On May 13, 2005 he was elevated to the Quebec Court of Appeal.
While a member of the Bar, Mr. Justice Dufresne often appeared before the Quebec Superior Court and the Quebec Court of Appeal in cases involving civil law and administrative law.
At the time of his appointment to the Quebec Superior Court, he was the head of the litigation group of Ogilvy Renault and a member of its management committee.
In 1993-94, Mr. Justice Dufresne served as president of the Committee on Administrative Tribunals of the Bar of Montreal, and as president of the Canadian Association of Transportation Lawyers in 1984.
From 2003 to 2005, he lectured at continuing legal education programs for the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice and the National Judicial Institute. |
