Born in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Madam Justice France Thibault studied at Collège Marie-de-l'Incarnation in Three-Rivers, CEGEP de Trois-Rivières (D.E.C. in Pure Sciences), then at Université Laval (L.L.B. 1975), in Quebec City.
Admitted to the Bar in 1976, she practiced law with the firm of Grondin, Poudrier, Bernier. She taught labour law, administrative law, factual research, negotiation, writing and representation at l'École de formation professionnelle du Barreau, from 1985 to 1991,. She was also a sessional lecturer at Université Laval in the basic principles of labour law (1989).
Madam Justice Thibault has been a member of various committees of the Quebec Bar: the Verification Committee (1986 and 1987), the Permanent Committee in Labour Relations (1986-1994), the Professional Training Committee (1993 and 1994), the Alternative Conflict Resolution Committee (1993 and 1994), and the Program Orientation Committee of the Bar Foundation (since November 2004).

Madam Justice Thibault has also been actively involved in the work of many university institutions and faculties as a member of the Consultative Board of the Law Faculty of Université Laval since April 2000, a member of the Editorial Board of “Les Cahiers de droit” since June 1996, and as a member of the Jury Selection Committee of “La Revue juridique des étudiants et étudiantes de l'Université Laval” since March 2000. Within the judiciary, she has served as President of “La Conférence des juges des cours supérieures du Québec”, as Vice-President and President of the Canadian Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges and as a member of the Continuing Education Committee for Canadian Appellate Court Judges.
Madam Justice Thibault was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court on January 27, 1994 and elevated to the Quebec Court of Appeal on December 1, 1998. She is married and the mother of two children. |
