Motion to a judge acting in chambers or duty judge

A judge acting in chambers is available on every day on which the Superior Court sits.

The parties must first contact Chantal Bertrand, assistant to the coordinating judge, to obtain a hearing date, except for seizures before judgment, special modes of service and special rules to appear for charges of contempt of court. In the latter cases, you must go to the clerk’s office for civil matters to be referred to the correct courtroom.

In urgent cases, a duty judge is available at all times outside normal court hours.

The duty judge can be reached by contacting the Montréal courthouse security service (514-393-2819) which will, in turn, contact the duty judge who will then communicate directly with the person making the request.
